Salted Caramel Tiffin

When I was growing up, my Mum used to make us Polish cake. It was this beautifully simple combination of mostly biscuits and chocolate that didn't require baking. I remember finding it so hard to resist the temptation to sneak a piece every time I opened the fridge. But I don't think I ever did, because I thought it would have been too obvious. We all loved this chocolatey treat that my Mum would cut up into tiny mouthfuls (unlike the enormous slabs pictured above!). When I moved away from home to go to university, this was one of the recipes that I had to take with me. I remember making it for my housemates, and two memorable things happened: 1) My friend's asked what was Polish about this cake, and I had no idea. It was one of those occasions where I realised that something that seemed completely normal to me because I had grown up with it, seemed odd to other people. 2) I dropped my housemate's camera into the melted chocolate. Miraculously, it still worked.

Beautiful Bristol and Beyond

As 2014 came to a close, and we started thinking about the year ahead, John and I talked about things that we would like to do differently in 2015. One thing that we both want to do is to explore the South West more. There have been seasons in our marriage where we have had a lot of weekends away for various celebrations and holidays, and in those seasons, when we find ourselves with a weekend at home, all we want to do is relax and stay put. However, it feels like that busy season of life is changing, which means we'll be home more. We've decided to be intentional about going on regular adventures as a family, just day trips to places that are nearby and won't cost much money, but will widen our perspective and bring that sense of feeling refreshed that exploring somewhere beautiful always gives us. Hello lovely readers, This post is just for you. In some ways, all of the things I share here are for you, but this one is especially for you. Let me explain. You see, I love the way that blogging provides me with a way of recording the moments in life that I want to remember. It's a brilliant tool for storing recipes and creative ideas, and it's a way of documenting the beauty that I see around me every day.
